Iran peace proposal rejected by Trump amid ongoing conflict

Iran’s new peace proposal aimed at de-escalating the ongoing conflict has been rejected by U.S. President Donald Trump. President Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the proposal and threatened them “to blast them to hell” if deal is not struck. This has triggered fresh concerns about global oil supplies and regional stability.

Iran Peace Proposal

Under Iran’s peace proposal –

  • Iran offers to end the blockade of Strait of Hormuz and re-open the shipping route and end the US blockade of Iran ships.
  • Also Iran is looking for a guarantee where US & Israel will not attack Iran.
  • Also leaves a room to discuss about Iran’s nuclear programme
  • Must recognize Iran’s right to enrich Uranium for peaceful purposes.

Why Trump rejected the proposal ?

Donald trump has openly shown the dissatisfaction with the peace proposal and Iranian leadership. Washington has clearly mentioned again and again that the war will not end until Iran’s guarantees of not obtaining the nuclear weapons and current proposal fails to deliver the same.

Impact on Global Oil Markets –

Since war started, Iran has blocked shipping for other countries except for its own from Gulf and last month US has imposed the restrictions on movement of Iran ships from Iranian ports. However, this also raised the global oil prices upto a four year high on Thursday.

What lies ahead ?

The rejection of Iran’s proposal does not necessarily mark the end of negotiations, but it does signal a challenging road ahead. Possible scenarios include:

  • Continued backchannel diplomacy through third-party nations
  • Increased economic and military pressure
  • A revised proposal that addresses U.S. concerns more directly
